Detroit ’67
We had almost opened Detroit ’67 in March 2020 when we had to abandon our tech as the nation entered a lockdown. The original sound design, created by Kimmy Kaur, was the base for the design when we remounted this show as a streaming production in October 2020. All of the sound effects that had been designed by Kimmy remained in the remount. However, there were significant changes in the music, largely due to music rights. While the songs called for in the script were covered with our performance rights, there were several additional Motown tracks from the time that we wanted to use. We needed to obtain the rights in order to use them. I was able to obtain grand rights for several songs and recordings, but had to choose some alternatives to keep our budget manageable. From a subscription service that we use and have rights for, I found the following music that was reminiscent of the music on Motown Records in the 1960s:
